Premium scaffolding solutions adapt to accommodate all kinds of lofty applications, so wall access scaffolding should just be another example of this comprehensive at-height erection craft, right? Well, we think there's more to this vertically challenging task than height, so here's a closer look at what it takes to work above walls and facades.

Notes on Exterior Wall Access Scaffolding

Contary to the standard tower erection ethos, wall labour is unilaterally biased. In other words, the work faces one direction. It points towards the wall. Guard rails fill the opposing and adjacent faces of the frame, but the wall side receives a unique set of safety-oriented guidelines. These include the distance of the work platform from the wall, the type of bracing mechanism employed, and the rules that govern the use of wall anchors.

Walls and Their Potential for Lateral Support

The walls of a building that's still under construction are still solidifying, so no anchors or ties are used in this developing structure. Instead, the scaffolding follows an independent erection protocol. It relies on its own stabilizing aids and other supplementary supports. Interestingly, older buildings that are classed as subject to a renovation contract, well, let's just say there are other options. Ties can be incorporated into the stabilizing setup. These tubular sections are passed through openings and window apertures and fixed in place, thus adding lateral stabilization to the wall access scaffolding project.

Evaluating Uses and Applications

Guard rails are fixed and netting strips are in place. The workers below are safe, but where is this framework located? Featureless civil engineering projects use wall-erected frames to touch up the exterior facades of bridge support walls and arching tunnel embankments. Away from these unadorned but mechanically essential structures, windowed walls on turn-of-the-century apartment buildings are subjected to clean-up work and renovation services. Newer glass and steel structures have their attractive facades upgraded with a little help from these unidirectional temporary work platforms while an old church located in the old town district waits for the same scaffold to be dismantled and dispatched to a rear wall, all so that a stained glass window can be repaired.

Indeed, the height of the wall and its safety-rated capabilities fill the minds of different competent persons as they ship the lightweight but durable parts around town, but it's still a case-by-case situation. Partially constructed walls are absolutely segregated from the scaffolding, naturally, but assuredly stable structures are used to add rigidity to the tall metal frame.
